How to compress an image to 20KB, 50KB, 100KB or 200KB

Many online forms reject photos that are too large. Job applications, exam registrations, school portals, visa and government websites often say things like "upload a photo under 100KB" or "signature must be below 20KB." Phone cameras take pictures of several megabytes, so you have to shrink the file before you can submit it. This free tool does that in a few seconds.

How to use it

  • Choose the size your form asks for: 20KB, 50KB, 100KB or 200KB. If it asks for something different, pick Custom and type the number of KB.
  • Tap the box and select your photos, or drag them in. You can choose several at once. JPG, PNG and WebP images work.
  • Wait a moment while the tool finds the best quality that fits under your limit.
  • Tap Download and upload the new file to your form.

Your photos stay private

The compression happens inside your own browser. Your image is never sent to a server, which matters when the photo is a passport picture, ID card or certificate.

Tips for getting a clear result

  • Start with the original photo, not a screenshot or a copy that was already compressed. You get better quality from the original.
  • Very small limits like 20KB mean the tool has to reduce quality, and sometimes the dimensions too. Signatures and plain photos on a light background shrink best.
  • If the picture looks too blurry, try the next size up if your form allows it.
  • Always check the format your form asks for. This tool saves your image as a JPG, which most portals accept.

Frequently asked questions

Is this image compressor free?

Yes. It's completely free, with no sign-up, no daily limit and no watermark. You can even compress many images at once.

Will the quality drop?

Some quality is always lost when a file gets smaller. The tool keeps as much as possible while staying under the size you choose.

Can I compress a photo from my phone?

Yes. It works in the browser on phones, tablets and computers, with no app to install.

Does it work with HEIC photos from an iPhone?

Not yet. If your iPhone saves photos as HEIC, change the camera format to Most Compatible in your iPhone settings, or convert the photo to JPG first.

What is the difference between KB and MB?

One MB is about 1,000KB. A 2MB photo is therefore around 2,000KB, so getting it under 100KB means making it roughly twenty times smaller.
